How does it work?

These appliances reposition the lower jaw into a more advanced (or retracted) position, stimulating or restraining bone growth as needed. They take advantage of the child's growth potential to correct the discrepancy naturally. The appliance is usually removable and must be worn according to the practitioner's instructions (often at night and for a few hours during the day).

Types of functional appliances

Treatment duration

The functional phase generally lasts between 6 and 18 months. It may be followed by a second phase with multi-bracket appliances to fine-tune dental alignment.
