These small biocompatible titanium screws, placed into the jawbone, serve as a fixed anchor point to achieve tooth movements that would be difficult or even impossible with conventional techniques.

How does it work?

The mini-screw is placed into the bone between tooth roots under local anaesthesia. The procedure is quick and painless. Once in place, it acts as a fixed point from which to apply orthodontic forces. Unlike teeth, which can shift in response to forces, the mini-screw remains perfectly still. It is simply removed at the end of treatment.

Indications

• Intrusion (pushing in) of over-erupted teeth
• Closing extraction spaces without retracting front teeth
• Correction of anterior open bites
• Uprighting of tilted molars
• Distalisation (moving back) of molars
• Traction of impacted teeth

Who is it for?

Mini-screws are mainly used in teenagers (after the growth spurt) and adults. They are particularly useful for complex cases requiring maximum anchorage or tooth movements that are difficult to achieve with conventional methods.

Duration of use

Mini-screws remain in place for as long as the orthodontic movements require, generally a few months to a year. They are then removed simply and painlessly. The bone heals quickly and completely.
