Orthodontic Fees and Insurance in Clermont-Ferrand

The OrthoClermont practice of Dr Alexandra Normand in Clermont-Ferrand is committed to a transparent pricing policy. The cost of orthodontic treatment depends on its complexity, the technique used and its duration. A personalised, detailed quote is always provided at the initial consultation before any commitment from the patient. This page explains how fees, reimbursements and payment facilities work.

How is the treatment cost determined?

The fee for orthodontic treatment is not a single fixed price. It is determined on a case-by-case basis according to several factors: the severity of the malocclusion, the type of appliance recommended (metal braces, ceramic braces, clear aligners, lingual braces), the estimated treatment duration and the number of appointments required. A simple 6-month alignment case does not represent the same investment as a complex 24-month correction involving extractions and mini-screws.

At OrthoClermont, the quote provided after the initial consultation details all costs: practitioner fees, appliance costs, and post-treatment retention costs. No hidden charges will be added during the course of treatment.

French national health insurance (Sécurité sociale)

The French national health insurance covers orthodontic treatment under certain conditions:

  • Patients under 16: Treatment is covered at a rate of €193.50 per six-month period of active treatment (100% of the conventional tariff). Maximum coverage is 6 semesters, i.e., 3 years of treatment.
  • Prior approval required: A prior approval form is sent to the health insurance fund before treatment begins. OrthoClermont handles this administrative process.
  • First year of retention: The first two semesters of retention (post-treatment monitoring) are also covered.
  • Patients over 16: National health insurance does not reimburse orthodontic treatments started after the 16th birthday, except in rare cases associated with jaw surgery.

Supplementary health insurance reimbursement

The portion not reimbursed by national health insurance, the out-of-pocket cost, can be significantly reduced by your supplementary health insurance (mutuelle). An increasing number of policies include orthodontic benefits that cover a substantial part of the fees.

The level of reimbursement depends on your contract. Some policies reimburse a fixed annual amount (for example €500 or €1,000 per year), others a percentage of actual costs. It is advisable to check your contract or contact your insurer before starting treatment to find out your exact coverage.

For adults, whose treatment is not covered by national health insurance, supplementary insurance is often the only source of reimbursement. Some premium plans offer adult orthodontic benefits of up to €2,000 per year.

The quote provided by OrthoClermont is specifically designed to be submitted to your insurer. It contains all the procedure codes and information necessary for your supplementary insurer to calculate your reimbursement.

Payment plans

OrthoClermont offers payment plans to spread the cost of treatment over its entire duration. Payment can be split into monthly instalments at no extra charge, making treatment accessible to the widest range of patients. Payment terms are discussed when the treatment plan is presented and can be adapted to your situation.

Accepted payment methods: cheques, bank card, bank transfers.

Indicative comparison by treatment type

The ranges below are provided as a general guide only and do not replace the personalised quote established after a clinical examination. Every case is unique and the actual cost depends on treatment complexity.

  • Metal braces: The most economical treatment, suitable for all types of cases
  • Ceramic braces: Slightly higher fee than metal braces, for improved aesthetics
  • Clear aligners: Variable fee depending on the number of aligners required
  • Lingual braces: Higher fee due to increased technicality and specialised laboratory
  • Functional and orthopaedic appliances: Often used in children, generally shorter duration

Frequently asked questions about fees

Can I find out the price before the consultation?

It is not possible to give a precise fee without a clinical examination. Each treatment is unique and the cost depends on the complexity of the case, the technique chosen and the duration. The initial consultation allows us to prepare a detailed, personalised quote.

Is treatment reimbursed for adults?

French national health insurance does not reimburse orthodontic treatments started after age 16. However, many supplementary insurers offer adult orthodontic benefits. We recommend checking your supplementary health insurance contract before the consultation. The quote we provide is designed for easy submission to your insurer.

Can I pay in instalments?

Yes. OrthoClermont offers payment in instalments spread over the entire treatment duration, at no extra charge. Monthly amounts are calculated based on the total cost and estimated treatment length, to fit each family's budget.

What exactly is included in the quote?

The quote details all fees: practitioner fees for the full duration of active treatment, appliance costs, and retention phase costs. There are no hidden charges. If a modification to the treatment plan becomes necessary during the course of treatment, it will be discussed with you and costed before implementation.
